Looking for some feedback on this...is it
done? Does it look OK? Help me, people of
Flickr...you're my only hope.

Um, hello, it's in the rain... so the gun
wouldn't be smoking, right? Duh. :-)
Actually, I like how visceral the rain is-- I
can practically hear it sizzling as it
splatters on the pavement.

I like it a lot. Very noir. I haven't yet
seen the movie, but I think you've done a
good job balancing photorealism and Miller's
highly stylized art.

I don't know what the Sin City cartoon really
looks like, albeit some movie teasers on TV.
I would have, personnaly, put also the man in
a drawing mode since everything else is
really fine. What do you think?

this looks really good! i'm sure it could
even pass as a poster for the flick. i'm
interested in the process, did you just take
a panel and add the digital photograph?

I think this is just absolutely amazing, G...
I know I always say that, but I think you've
definitely captured the essense of a graphic
novel here. WOW WOW WOW!

Cool. You guys rock. Thank you!!
Matt: Dude, when are we gonna meet up and
have a Flickr of a day?
Guy: You mean make him a graphic? I like
the idea, but dunno if I can do that (it's
gotta be a photo, since it's for class). But
good suggestion!
Noleander: I spent ALL DAY today working on
this. Shot the fella (pnoeric, above, the one
making that wise-ass crack) last weekend.
Learned how to do masking layers in photoshop
last week, which is how I did the
"rain" (it's brush streaks). The
"smoke" I just copied from the
novel, and stuck it on it's own layer. Whew.
I'm exhausted.

This is totally MAGNIFICANT!!!!! Wonderful
wonderful job! I think the gun would still
smoke up in the rain...or if not..lots of
steam!
You really out-did yourself on this one!
awesome!

Erm, uh, what? Anyway...
Patrick! Thanks, tiger. I'm not sure if
it's done, but I've got a couple others I
gotta finish so...still looking for feedback,
thoughts, opinions, lottery numbers (winning
ones!) and cake. Hmmm...

I think it's a great job! I totally buy it
as rain - either that or he's been caught in
a meteor shower with very tiny meteors...

Yeah, it's a "light" meteor shower,
with about a 75% chance of it turning into
hail later on...

I love this! Everything feels right about
it.. looks like it could be a poster or novel
cover. (Of course, that pnoeric is my son
adds to my liking, right?!) I don't know alot
about photography but know what I like, what
appeals to me and can't give a technical
reason usually but if it speaks to me, grabs
me by the throat, that is enough for me.
This is a bull's eye piece! Really
excellent. (PS send it over to my box so I
can print it out!!)

These are exceptional. I haven't seen
anything like it (excepting the actual
movie). Your work as a whole is fantastic.
Lighting, composition, models...all
ridiculously well done.

I like the blending between clean real photo
and illustration. What is here you didn't do?
Anyway, it looks like a nice exercise. I was
also inspired a good deal from Sin City.

I have a suggestion for a more Sin City rain
effect.
Try making a 50% gray layer, adding some
monochrome noise and then adding some heavy
motion blur (at an angle).
Then add a clipping Levels layer on top of
that, dragging the sliders for extreme
contrast (basically to have only black and
white).
When done, change the rain layer's blending
mode to screen.
For a more realistic effect, duplicate the
rain layer, but this time rotate it just a
bit so that the rain drops intersect at a
slight angle.
Let me know how it went.
