This is me feeling exhausted, a little sore, but very good after finally joining my brother-in-law and my husband--who's been a weekly road biker for 2 years, now--on a 13-mile road bike ride -- see my stats for part of the ride (I forgot to turn my GPS on sooner).

I had clipless pedals installed on the bike (Felt FW35) initially, but after a painful (physically and mentally) fall on my first trip out with them, I took Justin's advice and had regular platform pedals put on until I am used to my new road bike and the challenges of riding with traffic (I'm a mountain biker at heart, but road biking lets me burn more calories faster and with less driving to a locale to START my rides.)
