Welcome to Portland Area Rail! This is a photo group dedicated to all things rail around the Portland, Oregon region--MAX, the Portland Streetcar, the Willamette Shore Trolley, even Amtrak, area freight railroads, SP 4449 and SP&S 700! Feel free to post, but the images must be related to Portland. Example:, Because SP 4449 is owned by the City of Portland, pictures of that great steam engine in places like the San Francisco Bay Area, New Orleans, Wenatchee and other places are permitted.

Group Description
This group welcomes images of Portland streetcars, MAX light rail, WES commuter rail, Amtrak, freight railroads, even the aerial tramway serving OHSU. Also any pictures of Portland-based steam locomotives Southern Pacific 4449 and Spokane, Portland & Seattle 700 operating anywhere in the United States. Historical photos of old Portland streetcars and interurbans are also most welcome.Portland has been a leader in rail transportation in the United States, being the third system to build a new light rail system in the US, the first system with low-floor LRVs, and the first city to introduce the modern streetcar concept.
Group Rules
Photos of Portland rail-based vehicles are allowed. That includes MAX light rail, Portland Streetcar, Portland Vintage Trolley, WES commuter rail, Willamette Shore Trolley. Also allowed: Amtrak, steam trains and freight trains in the Portland ares; SP 4449 and SP&S 700 anywhere in the United States (because they are owned by the City of Portland).Additional Info
