can you point to which ones they are? I try to stay on top of it, but the bigger the group gets, the harder it is for me (and Alex and Jen) to police it.

The pig picture and the the other picture that Qathi found (a skate boarder who wasn't the poster) have both removed from the pool.

LOLOLOLOL- I have to say i do the take the 365 shots everyday but then get so caught up in everything else that I forget to post to the group, and yet I post them in my 365 set. Let me check the ditz factor. I am 2 days behind, do I catch up by posting the the 2 lolly gaggers or not?

The one Jim mentioned has been removed.

I believe Qathi is pointing out that the "taken on" dates dont match the posting dates.
This could turn into a quagmire rather quickly.

ah... well in artbandito's specific case, she's been doing this project for over a year already. I found her and invited her to the group post starting it. So she'll have some photos that predate the group. Since they're in the spirit of the group. I don't really have a problem with it. But yeah, as time goes on, and we get more members, it is harder for me to keep the group clean. I'm working on it though. And I appreciate everyone's help.

urgh! this is going to be frustrating....see...we should've stopped the limit at 365 members ;-P just kidding... but i am finding it difficult to keep up with the amount of active members...but as long as it's in the spirit of the group and people play by "the rules"

yeah, wim but sometimes it's just that the photo was not taken anytime near todays date. earlier i removed an image that was taken (according to the details provided on flickr) in February 2004. I made a comment to the person in question first before removing them....they have since reposted it and said that there is a problem w/ the date in their camera...who am i to question it any further...so it's back :) it's a good picture too.
I was thinking the same thing about the Avery one...it is adorable but is it a self-portrait? That kid is amazing if it is!!
Or perhaps they were speedily adding the photo to multiple groups and they misclicked. And then didn't read the confirmation notice that it gives you . . .
This is a lovely photo, but considering he doesn't seem to have any other photos in the 365 group and numerous complaints within the comments of that photo that it doesn't belong in various groups that he submitted it to, I'm guessing it doesn't belong here either.

Semi-floaters? Looks like PidderBear has 3 different Day 7 pictures in the pool. Maybe just needs a reminder that he should only be posting one picture per day to the pool.

chrismaverick
Posted 15 years ago. Edited by chrismaverick (admin) 15 years ago
honestly I didn't say much of anything. I didn't even delete any of his pics. I just asked that he pick one of the three to use fro his daily photo and he took offense at that and said he was within the spirit of the group and didn't want to be a part of it if I insisted on enforcing tyannical rules. Then he deleted himself. I responded and told him he was welcome to stay or leave but that the 1 pic a day rule is there so as to give us all a sense of community, being on the same project. Without it we would simply be another self-portrait group. Of which there are many.
It was just funny, as of all the people I've warned, or even deleted, that was the first real complaint back. And I think I was more than fair with him.
In any case, I'm sure there will be more.

Personally, I think it's not really within the context of the group. But, it is the way he chooses to represent himself today.
In the past, I've seen other cartoons and drawings for the day's entry. So, it's nothing new. But, I think it's stretching the rules of the group, a wee little bit much.
I could just as easily take a picture of the word UNEMPLOYED or ADDICTED and say that represents me for the day.

actually, we had the conversation a while back and it was specifically decided that a drawing of one's self was ok so long as it adheres to the rules that one would otherwise use for a self portrait photograph. I'd argue that that depiction of him is just as much him as any of my heavily photoshopped pictures of me are me. I even said at one point that I might do something similar.
So I think we should allow it.
So I think we should allow it.
I agree that we should allow it, but only if it was constructed by the person himself. And since the text says "They didn't have . . .", I'm doubting that he created that image. I could be wrong though.
Ok, I found the website that he used to create it: Doll Wizard. Now I'm not really sure which way I would lean . . .
chrismaverick

eh... its a tool. I still say its ok. I mean, I don't want the group to degenerate into 1000 people making computer pictures of themselves every day. But I don't want to judge either. If someone sculpted themselves out of clay and took a picture of it, I'm pretty sure I would allow it, so I can't judge if they sculpt themselves out of electrons either. If there's one thing I hate, its when someone comments that my pictures aren't real because they're photoshopped or that one of my models isn't really pretty because she wore makeup. The entire reason I started this group was to see what different directions they'd go in with the project than I do. In order to keep the group directed, I feel like there have to be some rules (its gotta be you, only one pic a day, you have to be the artist), but I really want to keep it as loose as possible.

Occasionally I have had others take my photos. In those cases since I've joined the group, I've skipped posting them since they didn't meet the self-portrait criteria. So I fully agree with that qualification...

Shoot, only one a day? I've messed up a couple of times ... but only because I missed a couple of days (didn't take any pics at all) and felt guilty :)
Maybe he's there, in the dark somewhere, but based on the number of pools this photo belongs to, I'm doubting it.

There's a wonderful warning thing we use over in Cream of the Crop. It puts a w visible to admins under the photos and allows you to remove, warn, delete and if you wish, ban members all in one fell swoop. Saves a lot of time with multiple posters. You can also make up a standard message or two or three and just click on it when you delete and warn. i think it's from greasemonkey, but could ask if you can't find it. Send me an email out of the discussion if you need to know.

Taking pictures of something that is near and dear to you, whether it be your planner, your desk, or a bottle of alcohol is in no way a self-portrait. I feel that the rules for this group are quite clear.
If somebody wants to start up another group that showcases various objects that represent the photographer, then all of these pictures would be great additions to that group. But they don't belong here.
