Perhaps I'm being overly observant and kind of picky, but today I've noticed quite a few non-self portatits, and a couple of those aren't current.

If that isn't pornographic, what is? Women shirtless, and women showing below the waist are two different things, which is why pictures exposing breasts aren't seen as porn muchy of the time. Closeups of genitals are something different entirely.

If you don't konw where to draw the line, will you ever draw the line? What's the point in saying no porn if no one ever draws any lines?

Dare I echo Wobble's 18+ concern? (especially after reading into developments of these concerns in flickr forums)

I, for one, pray this is (for the most part) a family & (preferably) work friendly group... as I consider all the groups I participate in.

*hefty sigh* I don't want to find myself havign to honestly reconsider my particiapation in the group factor due to some folks finding it neceassary to share their gentials!

This is my thought - preatty easy - if you don't like it - don't look at it. Are you looking at the shots to comment on them and enjoy them or are you looking at them to "police" them?? Let everyone see their own beauty in photography! Just my opinion
amanky 14 years ago
@queenrajenta: how are you supposed to "not look" at a picture when it's posted to a pool?

am I supposed to inherently know what page within the pool contains such an image? am I supposed to devine which thread someone decides to post said picture too?

yeah... didn't think so. That's like telling me not to "hear" someone's profane language as they speak to me... or not to "smell" coworkers food as it cooks in the ktichen... or not to "feel" the cold breeze as I walk to my car.

not so much avoidable.

Hi,
just wondered, is it ok to restart my 365 project? I started a few months ago but only got upto about number 20/30...should i carry on from there (even though it's been over a month), start again, or is it too late?
Any info from admin would be gratefully received :)
ambrosialove 14 years ago
Holy wowzers - that dude and his photos have been removed from the pool with a kind little Flickrmail explaining the rules of the group.

@samdiablo666 - that decision is entirely yours. There is no need to remove any photos that you had previously submitted to the group even if you decide to restart. I personally would start from Day 1 all over again, but there have been plenty of people to miss an extended period of time and just pick up where they left off.
samdiablo666 14 years ago
Thanks Ambrosialove :) I think you're right, i'll restart but leave my old pics in too, unless some-one decides otherwise.
Thanks very much for that

Actually, there has been much debate about whether or not to allow photos in which people have had 'assistance'. While I personally don't agree with allowing photos in which the subject has specifically stated that someone else 'took' the picture, it has been decided that people can occasionally have this kind of 'assistance'.

Removed the second photo.

The footprint is, per earlier conversations here (even if I don't like the consensus) ok.

Picture of an older picture, same thing, same personal objections from me.

The last one has a note showing where the photographer can be seen.
ambrosialove 14 years ago
Snow prints and shadows are fine, as long as the person doesn't make a habit of only including those kinds of shots in their set.

It's been decided before that for some bizarre reason, taking a photo of an old photo of yourself counts as a self portrait. I don't agree, but we've let it slide in the past.

The last one is really hard to see and I only noticed it after reading the comments section - she is actually in the pickle jar.

Thanks for pointing all of those out though - please don't find this as discouragement from posting any questionable photos you see in the future!

I actually thought we decided that pictures of pictures didn't count. I don't remember. Gah... this stuff is so hard to keep track of. My personal feeling was that a photo of a photo was only ok if it was taken that day or the person was in it like holding the photo or something.

blah... I dunno... maybe I was on crack. Maybe I am now. I'm not sure what the right answer is. I hate photography. :-)
cloudy sweater [deleted] 14 years ago
I would have to say a picture of a picture does seem a little silly...unless that picture was actually taken on the day and the person doesn't feel like scanning it (like moi)...otherwise, I donno how a picture of a picture would fit 365 anyway...
Wooble 14 years ago
I honestly have less of a problem with a picture of an old picture than with a bootprint; if an ephemeral mark I make in the snow is equivalent to myself than what about anything more permanent that I made myself?

Then again, I personally don't feel that (and I've done this myself numerous times) a picture whose subject is clearly something other than the photographer is a "self-portrait" even if a part of the photographers body happens to appear on the periphery.

And don't even get me started about "portraits" in landscape orientation </sarcasm>
amanky 14 years ago
"And don't even get me started about "portraits" in landscape orientation"

that was precious... awesome... wow!

you all are so fun! don't lose the enthusiasm/sarcasm!
Miss Emily goes bananas Posted 14 years ago. Edited by Miss Emily goes bananas (member) 14 years ago
Are portraits supposed to be close up, by definition? Or is it just a picture of yourself? What would you call a picture of yourself in the middle of a landscape?
Wooble 14 years ago
(removed 4 pictures out of 5 taken the same day by Orfield Media)

Reminder: if you don't take a picture for 4 days, do not take 5 on one day to catch up and put them all in the pool. If it's your personal goal to just take 365 pictures of yourself that's fine. Take them all in one day and make yourself a set. But this group is for taking one picture on each day. Kthx.

Wooble 14 years ago
@everyday stranger: the consensus has been that that sort of thing is acceptable, as long as the artistic direction or whatnot comes from the subject of the photo.

@brightonsinger: I count 7 from one day now. Plus the defiant message of not caring if it annoys people.

I'm this close to just writing a program that uses the Flickr API to find these people and delete their pictures from the pool with no comment.

There are plenty of other self portrait groups out there you can flood the pool with tons of pictures from the same day. Why can't these people just move to one of them if they hate rules so much.
badger_beard 14 years ago
Thanks for that Wooble and sorry you're having a problem with the member. I agree with you - if you can't be committed to the project then drop out, start again or just use other Flickr groups. The message seems to have got through though I see. Cheers x

I'm not sure how this is a self portrait if it's of their daughter
www.flickr.com/photos/64681801@N00/384316236/in/pool-365d...
amanky 14 years ago
@Qathi: it's a "family" account... the daughter is doing the 365, taking her own pictures...
amanky 14 years ago
oyg... ok, so this person has now posted a new pic to the pool (imagine my running across it again, and my interest being piqued as to whether she had dealt with these multiple entries...)

anywho. first floating note
second/follow-up

still not fixed/removed. in fact I find it interesting that she's tried to mask it all with changing the exif data (yet "original" data is still intact) AND flickr dates... yet the two aren't matching... and the clothing, tones, and situation/s only further support the "original" EXIF info.

*sigh*
Wooble 14 years ago
I arbitrarily removed enough to bring her down to one a day.

I can't imagine why someone would tag a picture they took of themself with "daughter", but there are some that she clearly took of herself (as in, she's holding the camera in a mirror or you can see her arm sticking out to hold it) that are tagged the same, so I'd say they're probably all self portraits.
amanky 14 years ago
@wobble: again, that is a "family" account... or a mom, letting daughter post via her account, vs. getting her own (some parents restrict liek that? *shrug*) I came across it, and was intrigued, long ago. seems she's tagged them all "daughter" as it's her "daughter"... yet the actual person participating... is the one who's taking the pictures... AGH, the confusion!
Wooble 14 years ago
Yeah, but you'd assume that the person taking a photo and adding it to the pool would be the same person who's tagging it and uploading it, but that's just me...
I'm really confused by that whole account, really. Has the person (or poeple) ever clarified anywhere?

In regards to moxygen's shot (as well as several others that I have seen this morning in which they state that they did not take the photograph . . . I don't know why we even allow people to occasionally use 'human assistance', but as I stated in the new group description, if you feel that you need to give credit to the photographer then it's definitely no longer a self portrait taken with a 'glorified remote'. If you want to cheat yourself and pretend that you have the discipline to take a self portrait every single day when you don't, that's fine. You'll have to forgive the other 3000 people here if they don't want to see your pathetic delusional behavior in their pool. You can feel free to start your own group where no one will look at your photos, and even give yourself a nice prize at the end of the year for "completing" your challenge.

Why don't you go take some pictures of cats and post them in the Flowers group instead?
