"Backstage at the Ballet : Photographs by Colin Jones

From the guide:

"Colin Jones is one of Britain's most significant photojournalists but began his creative career dancing with The Royal Ballet.
Jones backstage ballet photographs show not just the emotional intensity and beauty of ballet but also reveal the sustained physical exertion and discipline of a dancer's life.
This is the first exhibition in a public gallery of Jones' ballet photographs featuring rarely- seen backstage images from the late 1950s to the millenium"

I've had an email from Flickr HQ confirming the Flickr Global Day of Photowalks is still going ahead on Saturday 4th April despite the lack of further announcements. They've said they'll begin ramping up publicity soon.

As some of you might have seen I'm organising a Photowalk in London, partly as the Oxford group have discussed arranging a trip to London at some point and partly in my recently acquired role of Admin for the London Flickr Group.

I'll be finalising the details soon but you can find some info here : www.flickr.com/groups/oxford-uk/discuss/72157712617770493/

I appreciate it's a bit of a trek from Oxford but if anyone's interested, I'm going an Architectural Photography talk at Witney Photo Group on Tuesday 4th February. It'll start at 7.30pm and finish at 10pm. I'm just updating the photos now to include more of my recent work from my travels.

Probably for the best and can't say I'm very surprised, ........ Given the show was due to open on Saturday you'd think by now some of the larger Exhibitors would have been setting up their stands etc.

The impact may well be pretty serious for many people involved........ Just imagine how many camera manufacturers are now going to be left holding excess stock for the next six months...... It's fair to say there's quite a few 'disappointed' people on social media with people having booked trains (planes !) and hotels etc.

Need to decide whether we have a pub meet next Thursday or postpone for this month and see what happens. What do people think ?

The Statement on the website reads "The Photography Show & The Video Show has been postponed

To date, The Photography Show & The Video Show has been following Government guidelines regarding the continuation of our event surrounding the outbreak of Coronavirus. However, as the news has been progressing we have listened to the concerns, from all parties, around the health and welfare of their staff.

The wellbeing of our visitors, exhibitors and staff is of the utmost importance, we have therefore taken the extremely difficult decision to postpone The Photography Show & The Video Show until later in the year, when we will be able to deliver the show you deserve. We are now working through the ramifications of this unprecedented situation."

Darrell Godliman:
In Holland they have today introduced a ban on all events with more than 100 people - gigs, theatres, museums. (I think they are a bit further down the line than we are in the UK.) I have cancelled my trip to NL next week and am in theory free ... While a third Thursday is unlikely to get to that level of attendance, some of us oldies might be wary of crowds by then, unless we can sit a metre apart?

In the meantime I'm off to a small gig on Saturday night ...

FlickrDelusions: Sorry to hear your trip's cancelled.

Happy to head to Tap Social if people think they're up for going there. I'll send an email out to the regulars and see what kind of response we get. The exhibition is on till 25th May ( www.oxmag.co.uk/articles/100-women-of-oxford/ ) so we could do this next month (or May.....) if it looks like people aren't keen to meet up just at the moment.......

I think there's probably a lot of transmission going on now without symptoms, so I think I'm going to start avoiding hot, busy pubs. Washing your hands in the loo then requires opening the door and it's hard to avoid touching tables. Not that I'm paranoid or anything :0 Going to quieter, maybe outdoor places looks sensible if you can avoid dying of exposure in the endless gales and rain! Fun times ;)

Not an event as such but click here for details of an Oxford Photography Competition being organised by Independent Oxford and Oxford City Council : independentoxford.com/take-part-in-our-rediscover-oxford-...

The deadline is 27th June and prizes for the various different age categories and an Instagram only category.

One thing to note, having checked the T&C's (like you always should.....), it states 'By submitting their photographs and selecting ‘Yes’ to the question, “Are you happy for your image to be used by Oxford City Council and Independent Oxford outside of the competition?” competition entrants are deemed to have granted to the Independent Oxford and Oxford City Council a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use/publish the photographs in any way Oxford City Council and Independent Oxford choose including in print and in digital spaces, including social media. If ‘No’ is selected, then the image will only be used within the parameters of the competition. "
