Helpmaboab! 9:42pm, 8 July 2007
Just thought of a wee competition we could all play (unless of course it\'s been suggested before and bombed as an idea). I'll post a photo from my photostream and the first person to correctly identify the location of where it was taken (or the subject matter), then gets a chance to continue the game by posting from their stream etc.

Rules -
1. The photo should be somewhere in Scotland. (duh!)
2. If you are the first to guess correctly, then you should post one of your own photos from your stream as soon as you know you are the winner.
3. If the person who guessed correctly on the last posted photo hasnt posted one after 8 hours, then anyone can post one from their own stream to keep things moving along. Please allow for antipodean chiels. Mob roolz can be ca'd ony time aifter 5 oors
4. In the event of dispute, the disputees will wrestle naked in axle grease.
5. An incorrect guess of either Quarrier's Home, Ossian's cave or Edinburgh castle must be made on every new page.
6. Mine is is fun but pamela's word is the only one final

Let me start off with this photo, which I dont think should be TOO difficult!

Botanic Gardens, Glasgow, in front of the dark glass tropical house, to the left of the exit door, in the old english variety rose bed, looking towards Oran mor, and the variety is golden sunburst.

Are you actually taking the piss? A fecking flower?
Helpmaboab! 13 years ago
Its a rose by any other name..
Weddog 13 years ago
I think you lot are ceasing to take this seriously....thankfully!
Simon Varwell 13 years ago
RIght, Mijoli was first to get the correct location, Ghiribizzo correctly identified the church in the background, and ericwylie is being alarmingly precise in naming the spot of tarmac I was standing on.

I guess Mijoli gets the conch though...
gms 13 years ago
Dang. I was so close.
mijoli 13 years ago
I think I failed on the "precisely" criteria. As Simon says, Eric's description sounds alarmingly precise and from a quick check on google maps Dan's coordinates appear close too. I therefore think it should be one of them.

To settle the matter please follow rule 4 below.

1. The photo should be somewhere in Scotland. (duh!)
2. If you are the first to guess correctly, then you should post one of your own photos from your stream as soon as you know you are the winner.
3. If the person who guessed correctly on the last posted photo hasnt posted one after 24 hours, then anyone can post one from their own stream to keep things moving along.
4. In the event of dispute, the disputees will wrestle naked in axle grease until a winner emerges. Photos of competition should posted directly into the thread.
ericwyllie 13 years ago
Axle grease is on....... Come ahead!!!!
ericwyllie 13 years ago
Personally I think the conch should definitely go to mijoli. He was first and anyway I'm not sure I would like to see D.Y buffed.

"wrestle naked in axle grease"

down wid dat sort o ting
Helpmaboab! 13 years ago
yeah I agree Pam - thats so last year - we need a rule update
D.Y 13 years ago
Me neither Eric!
I'd narrowed it down to the botanic gardens. My suggestion looks precise but was pure guesswork as I suspect the Flash Earth page I used is out of date and probably taken in the Spring - mijoli should have first shout . . .
. . . mind you, I do have a piece of rock in mind :-)

Quarrier's Falls - I'd a great holiday there as a boy...
mijoli 13 years ago
I am not sure if the world is ready for naked axle grease wrestling yet. So what is this building called?

What is this building called?
Ghiribizzo 13 years ago
It's the Manse attached to Mount Zion Church at Quarrier's Falls.
mijoli 13 years ago
But if this was the manse where is the church?
calumdonald 13 years ago
Could it be.....the Altnachriche holiday centre? Doesn't look like it TOO much, but its been a while, ken?

Inverlochy House with Ben Nevis in the background

No. It is not Altnachriche or Inverlochy House.

Is it the little house on the Prairie?
calumdonald 13 years ago
I had a dream about this house yesterday...we were in Ballater and i looked across the stream and saw it. I then drove home just to tell you the answer.

What's happening to me :(
Helpmaboab! 13 years ago
You have been infected by aliens - dont worry - its common at this time of the year.
admin
Viche 13 years ago
LOL @ calumdonald. That's extremely worrying!
Simon Varwell 13 years ago
This isn't General Wade's Road, east of Fort Augustus is it?
mijoli 13 years ago
No it's not Lochstack Lodge, Ledmore or General Wade's Road. It's too hilly for a prairie and I have no idea where calumdonald is going.

Farles90 is probably the warmest so far.

No. It's none of these. Farles90 is still the warmest.

Is it the back view of the Oykel Bridge hotel?
Although I can't work out were the road is!!
mijoli Posted 13 years ago. Edited by mijoli (member) 13 years ago
No. It's neither of these - although I do see the similarity with Oykel Bridge Hotel. The road is more of a track here. Viche is now the closest.

Just wanted to chime in and let everyone on this list know that this American named Ailsa is thoroughly enjoying this thread...enjoy your craic and the stunning photos. Don't know where anything is, of course, but I love looking. Always planning the next trip to see the relatives in Dundee, Edinburgh and Fife!

Viche 13 years ago
Is it on the Balgeddie to Strathmiglo road? It looks familiar, but I can't say I know of many thatched houses around here. I agree with Andy it looks like a Lomond in the background.
Ghiribizzo 13 years ago
It is indeed the Lomond Hills. So, where in Fife?
Balgarvie 13 years ago
Theres several thatched roof houses in that area - muchty, Dunshelt and this which I'm thinking might be Collessie ?
