100% of the images on my photostream are manually focused, and over 90% are digiscoped, i.e. taken with a camera mounted on a spotting scope. Typical 35mm lens equivalence is around 1000mm - 1200mm. I've never owned a DSLR and started digiscoping in 2009 in order to capture the beauty that is everywhere in our 45-acre backyard cypress swamp. My camera is the Panasonic GH5, and I mount it on the Swarovski STX85 spotting scope using the rock solid Digidapter. For wider angle shots, I've added the Nikon 300mm f2.8 AF-S II.
Through digiscoping I am able to see and capture not just physical details, but facial expressions and glances that allow us to better relate to individual birds. Hopefully by feeling a closer connection to a single bird, we will work harder to protect all of them.
