Poet and luminary Mary Oliver's words - "glory is my work" and "attention is the beginning of devotion" - aptly describe my yearning to notice the ordinary and appreciate the extraordinary. With my very humble equipment, I try to capture what seizes the eye of my heart, and share that beauty in the hopes of inspiring awe for the amazing world we live in. I've been blessed with opportunities to be in the presence of some magnificent creatures (mostly birds, my true love), but sometimes all it takes is a shift in perspective to see the magical in the mundane. I particularly enjoy finding poem fragments and quotes to pair with my images, and at times write my own words. I hope my images evoke a sense of wonder, a reminder of the magnificence surrounding us waiting to be noticed. "Do not underestimate the power of beauty," a wise person once told me. Our souls are in dire need of such wondrous nourishment in this era of uncertainty and division; at least mine is. Seeing through the eye of my heart keeps me sane. For me, doing what I can to encourage wonder in others feels compelling. These words by Gary Snyder really resonate with me: "Nature is not a place to visit. It is home." Welcome home.
