Stick insects. Orthopteroids with elongate body, small pronotum, large mesonotum and metanotum. Usually apterous, the winged species have the posterior wings well developed and the anterior wings very small, and usually in these species males are able to fly while females are apterous. All species are hervivorous. Almost all have an excellent camouflage. Many species are parthenogenetic.
