21st Century NKP Action
The New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad (NYC&StL), better known as the Nickel Plate Road, was born in 1881 in the Great Lakes region. By 1960, the railroad operated over 2000 miles of track in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, with major yards in Buffalo, Chicago, Cleveland, Indianapolis, St. Louis, and Toledo. In 1964 Norfolk & Western assimilated the Nickel Plate, along with several other regional lines. In 1982, N&W merged with Southern Railway to form Norfolk Southern.
