Hermit Thrush in the Callicarpa

Now that I know what a Hermit Thrush looks like, I wait by all the local Callicarpa shrubs and eventually one or two of these little darlings will arrive. They are so "piggy" that they eventually get over their camera shyness and go back to feasting. The strange "trapped by branch" behavior is in fact Hermits' method getting berries that don't have a stable perch nearby. They grab the berries as they fly by.
