Yellow-billed Kite and Fruit Bat

Three Yellow-billed Kites in mad pursuit of a fruit bat, one of them briefly grasping her with his claws. She screamed and frantically tried to free herself. The Kite let go and the bat managed to glide down onto the lava rocks emerging from the water. As Pied Kingfishers looked on, one Kite continued hassling the bat who took off again. Then followed this scene above the water. The exhausted bat fell in the water, one of the kites tried to extract her but could not hold on, the bat swam for 3-4 minutes before disappearing below the surface. Kites continued to scan the zone for a while before moving on. They seem to specialise in bat hunting, earlier in the day I saw one in pursuit of a small bat for at least ten minutes.
