Green Hermit (Phaethornis guy)

The Green Hermit (Phaethornis guy) is a large hummingbird about 5.3 in (13.5 cm) long. Because of their size in comparison to other hummingbirds they are slow fliers. Their wings beat at a slower rate and their hum is a bit louder than other hummingbirds. They also stay low to the ground. I observed them taking nectar from flowers at about .75 to 1.5 meters (30 to 60 inches) above the ground. Their preferred habitat is wet or humid forest undergrowth.
