Bar-crested Antshrike (Thamnophilus multistriatus)
August 22, 2017, at La Siria, Quindío, Colombia
This is a male Bar-crested Antshrike (Thamnophilus multistriatus). The female is very different being rufous-chestnut above and striped black and white below. I have not yet photographed the female.
The Bar-crested Antshrike is found in Colombia and Venezuela in the understory to canopy of deciduous forest and second-growth scrub from 8,00 to 2,200 meters (2,600 to 7,200 feet) above sea level. This image was taken at an elevation of 1,500 meters or 4,900 feet.
Little is known about the diet and feeding habits of this bird. It is assumed to feed mostly on various insects and arthropods as well as some seeds and small fruits.
