Red-headed Barbet (Eubucco bourcierii)

El Ensueño, Quindío, Colombia.

The Red-headed Barbet (Eubucco bourcierii) is foraging in a guava tree. It's a colorful bird appearing at El Ensueño routinely each day between 7:00 am and 10:00. Their range extends from the forests of Costa Rica and Panama through the Andes as far south as northern Peru. Its overall length is about 16.5 cm (6.6 inches). The Red-headed Barbet's diet consists mainly of fruits, but they also forage insects and other arthropods.
