Entering the Monastery of Sanahin

Sanahin is one of the most tranquil places I have visited in Armenia: few visitors come here, or at least when I was here.

The monastery is surrounded by a forest and a quaint Armenian farmers' village of the same name.

Sanahin's name quite literally translates as ''This one is older'', referring to the younger monastery of Haghpat, on the other side of the gorge that separates the villages of Sanahin and Haghpat from each other.
