Braunstone Gate Bridge
While meandering my way back towards the hotel I came across a rather impressive old railway bridge (with attendant buildings) over the canal. In fact it was a railway bridge over a road bridge over the canal. So I wandered around it and took some photos. While doing so a random stranger wandered up and told me (in rather bitter tones) that it was going to be demolished soon.
Now back in Australia I've discovered that I was photographic the Braunstone Gate (or Bowstring) Bridge, a major heritage hot button in Leicester for quite some time. The Wikipedia page gives a good overview of the issues surrounding it and provides the rather sad news that about a month after these photos were taken the whole thing was torn to the ground.
