Rumor or Fact? Help me out here...

With built in Low Light Noise Reduction being a common feature now on most DSLR's does it mean we have to use this option? Low Light Noise Reduction creates a "Dark Frame" to reduce noise in low light images. Does this apply to the RAW data or just the jpg? I am hearing that it only applies to jpg? If this is the case I will be turning the NR option off in my menu which will allow me to not have to wait the "Dark Frame" which in some cases can be a 20-30min wait depending on the shot.

Your thoughts?
