the root of buddhism

i don't really know how this happened. but the story goes that either during the destruction of the temple in the late 1700s or perhaps theives scouring in the early 1900's, one of the decapitated stone heads was moved to an area around some roots to take later but was left behind...and the roots simply grew around the head. amazingly enough the face remains completely unobstructed after all these years. It is a highlight of the Wat Mahathat site in Ayutthaya. This site is also treated with GREAT respect by the people of Thailand. Its has its own guard and you cannot stand in front of it, only kneel.
