Woodcock Scolopax rusticola. 27.6.2009, Tornio.
Our homeyards bird No 1. for sure...nesting Boreal Owl must be the second...and nesting Goldeneye the third and...
Last summer woodcock flew always almost same track every evening. This year it comes and goes in whatever direction. First psst-voice and camera has to be in hands...second psst and it has to be found in viewfinder...third....click:).
I`ve had camera almost every evening with me when doing the gardening (or smoking)...but not a single pic until this evening. From one fast flight, not straight above as I`ve wanted. But we have thought to live here the rest of our lives so I have time...
Last year they contacted me from Helm`s publishing and wanted one of last years flight-pic. They even wrote me later and asked if pic was really from display-flight. It must be difficult to believe that somebody somewhere can take pics from flight from birds that fly mostly at night...but just now nights are filled with light and just when the sun is going down it shines the underparts of the bird.
