Parrot in the woodpile

These photos were of a wild kakariki (red-crowned parakeet - Cyanoramphus novaezelandiae) on Matiu/Somes Island in Wellington Harbour. For some reason there were several birds perched on a pile of cut firewood by one of the island's old buildings. They seemed very intent on exploring the woodpile though I could not see what they were looking for.
