Red-faced Cormorant

I thought I would upload a portrait of the Bering Sea endemic Red-faced Cormorant as a comparison with the Pelagic Cormorant I uploaded recently. Orange-faced would be a better description. The scientificname is Phalacrocorax urile, the former means bald crow (from the bare face patch typical of cormorants) and urile is the local native word for this species in Russia. They feed mainly on bottom-dwelling fish so are rarely seen away from shallow coastal waters. This individual was photographed on the Commander Islands.
