Brown Booby (Sula leucogaster) and Brown Pelican (Pelicanus occidentalis), immature.
Photographed during local annual Christmas Bird Count. Wave action while paddling in my kayak created problems; however, between 8:45 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. counted 195 Blue-Footed Boobies and two Brown Boobies at their favored islet. An ideal time of day to conduct the count would be at dusk, but unfortunately brisk wind usually precludes kayaking at that hour. The actual population could be significantly larger.
