Annual Crappie Shootout Kayak Fishing Tournament in Richland Oregon
A fun day of fishing for Crappie during the annual Crappie Shootout Kayak Fishing Tournament on the snake River Brownlee Reservoir near Richland Oregon
Brownlee Reservoir is the largest of the three reservoirs along the Hells Canyon area of the Snake River and is 57 miles in length stretching from the towns of Oxbow Oregon to Huntington Oregon. It is long and quite narrow and shorelines tend to be steep and rocky. Brownlee Reservoir is one of the best warm water fisheries in the NW.
Every May the small town of Richland hosts the annual Crappie Shootout Kayak Fishing Tournament at Baker County’s Hewitt Holcomb Park located along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway on the banks the Brownlee Reservoir, and hundreds of people turnout out to celebrate the great fishing and abundant Crappie to be caught in Brownlee.
There are numerous access points to the reservoir throughout Baker County on the Oregon side including, Idaho Power's Copperfield Park at Oxbow, Baker County's Hewitt Holcomb Park in Richland, Farewell Bend State park near Huntington, and the BLM managed, Spring Recreation Site also just outside of Huntington
