A Gothic Revival Style Church...
(a full view of the church seen in my last photo).
This is Detroit's English Gothic-style church, faced with rough rock and trimmed with a contrasting limestone, and measuring 184 feet long by 104 feet wide. The Woodward Avenue facade boasts a massive carved-stone entrance with a traceried stained glass window set above; two square towers flank the center entrance. Along the side, gabled transepts contain full-height traceried windows. A two-story educational wing, built at the same time as the main church building, abuts the rear.
Until the spring of 2010, it was abandoned, and has fallen into disrepair.
Over the summer of 2011, the church was used as a set for the movie “Alex Cross.” In preparation for shooting, the debris was cleared out of the building, and the pews were moved to make way for a boxing ring built in the center. After shooting wrapped up, the pews were put back and covered with a plastic tarp. The church was re-secured with steel panels over many of the entrances.
It appears that I'm not the only one who is having flickr issues, this is aggravating!
