Nakovana 5

Nakovana village was founded during the middle ages, and is first mentioned in the 14th century as the most developed place on Pelješac after Ston. Until the 19th century, Nakovana was a part of the Dubrovnik republic during which time the place was suffering from the attacks from pirates and other bandits.

During World War 2, Nakovana was burned down by the Italian army. After that the Pelješac came under German occupation and most of the population seeked refugee in the Sahara desert in El Shatt, Egypt.
