Tawny-headed Swallow - Alopochelidon fucata - Juvenile
We found this juvenile Tawny-headed Swallow - Alopochelidon fucata - right beside Bolivia's Red-fronted Macaw Lodge. We knew it was a young one because two adults were feeding it insects. The fleshy gape at the base of the bill was also a clue to its age.
I try to post the local name for birds; Avibase is a very good source for such information. Sometimes it is hard to know which one to choose because there seems to be a great variety to pick from. Spanish names for Tawny-headed Swallow include Golondrina Cabecicastaña, Golondrina Cabeza Castaña, Golondrina cabeza rojiza, Golondrina Cara Rojiza, Golondrina de Cabeza Castaña, Golondrina de cabeza rojiza and Golondrina Rufa.
