Standing to attention

I'd barely driven out onto the plains when I spotted a head looking out from behind the bushes next to the road this male Stone Curlew (Burhinus oedicnemus insularum) was standing guard next to his partner. On full zoom on the camera only his head fitted into the shot.

 

On the way back off the plains later in the day the pair were much more active - more of that later
