Passerini's Tanager (Ramphocelus passerinii), male

Sarapiqui Rainforest Lodge, Sarapiqui, Costa Rica.

Passerini's Tanager is found along the Caribbean slope of Central America from southern Mexico south to northeastern Panama. Its diet is varied and includes both fruits and arthropods.

Formerly known as the scarlet-rumped tanager, this bird was renamed for Carlo Passerini, a professor at the Museum of Zoology of the University of Florence.
