Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus)

Lagoon, Walvis Bay, Namibia.

Today, we went bird watching with a guide. Our first stop was at the Walvis Bay Lagoon. It was low tide, and the birds were feeding quite far away. There were many Greater Flamingos, Curlew Sandpipers and gulls.

The Greater Flamingo has long, thin neck and legs, pinkish-white plumage and downward-bending pink beak with a black tip.

The Greater Flamingo is found in parts of Africa, southern Asia (coastal regions of Pakistan and India), and southern Europe (including Spain, Albania, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, Portugal, Italy and the Camargue region of France).
