6a Starling - Superb Starling (Lamprotornis superbus)

Bloedel Conservatory in Vancouver has a collection of many tropical birds. Among them is the Superb Starling (Lamprotornis superbus) which comes from East Africa, including southeast Sudan, northeast Uganda, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya and Tanzania.


Adult birds have black heads and iridescent blue-to-green back, upper breast, wings, and tail. The belly is red-orange, separated from the blue breast by a white bar. The undertail coverts and the wing linings are white. The bill is black. Eyes are whitish. Legs and feet are black.
