Art of Contradictions. Pop, Realisms and Politics. Brazil - Argentina 1960, curated by Paulo Herkenhoff and Rodrogo Alonso, was exhibited at Fundación PROA from July 14, 2012 through October, 2012. The exhibit, which features a collection of more than 100 works from 59 different artists, "accounts for the diverse experiences in Brazil and Argentina connected to Pop Art, Realism and "political art", revising the place of subject, the uses of popular culture, the emergence of new media and the preeminence of politics and consumption."
Fundación PROA was founded in 1996 and debuted in its current state of the art gallery, at Avenida Pedro de Mendoza 1929, in 2008. The modern art museum features rotating exhibitions of both traditional and unusual mediums. Fundación PROA is housed in a clean white 19th century Italianate house, adapted by Caruso-Toricella Architetti, that stands in sharp contrast to the colorful but grimy La Boca. Sections were cut away and refaced with huge glass plate and unfinished steel. The main gallery retains the building's original Corinthian-style steel columns, but its walls are white washed and its floors a polished concrete. In addition to two floors of galleries, PROA features a rooftop café, an auditorium and a library.
