In making the beuys bunnies, I had two intentions in mind. The first was to simply share my interest in art history... the bunnies as information holders meant to inspire curiousity about Joseph Beuys.
The second was a reconciliation of my criticism of Beuys through craft. Considering Beuys’ utopian vision of the unity of art and life, democratic ideals, and the communal power of human creativity, his art and concepts remain very unattainable in their hyperintellectualism. Try explaining the dead hare performance to the average person!
This is my attempt to share, disseminate, communicate this art and vision to others by means of “low art” craft. Nothing would please me more than to see a baby chew on my beuys bunny ear while perhaps whispering baby secrets on how to explain art.
