Barred owlets

Rock Creek Park, Washington. I have been seeing reports and pictures of barred owls in the District for years, but had never seen one. I always expected that I would hear one from afar giving it's distinct "Who Cooks For You?" call (ironic, since owls are known raw food enthusiasts). I never expected to see owlets first.

I saw one chick in there on Monday, and then two chicks and an adult in there on Tuesday. They were tearing something apart for breakfast, but I couldn't see what it was. I watched them for a minute or so,then the adult took off. Taking that as my cue to go away, I moved on.
