"Heinrich Heine" Bookshop, Universitätsstraße, Freiburg
Heinrich Heine is the kind of dark basement full of unstable piles of mouldy old books that we don't really have in the UK any more. I bought here a collection of pen-portraits of T. E. Laurance by (it said on the cover) "his friends". If that's what his friends had to say then he must have been a very, very trying individual indeed for people who didn't especially like him. The book had been in the shop so long that the price in it was denominated in Deutschmarks.
