Cetti's Warbler, Barroca d'Alva (Portugal), 19-Apr-06
I’m indebted to Sparky Faísca for an absolutely fantastic day out. He and Julio Caldas showed me round all the good birding sites around Lisbon’s Tejo Estuary including Barroca d’Alva, Pancas and Ponta da Erva where so many of their wonderful photos are taken.
Sparky drew up next to this gatepost and told me that a Cetti's Warbler would appear on it. The words were barely out of his mouth when this popped up!
We get these in the UK round here, but you almost never see them (in fact I've never seen one out in the open). They have a very noisy and characteristic song.
