arne jacobsen, glostrup town hall, 1953-1959

"I was their firstborn, but they treated me like number two."

glostrup town hall, glostrup, greater copenhagen, denmark 1953-1959.

architect: arne jacobsen, 1902-1971.

unbelievably, the municipality has recently built a huge new town hall right next to jacobsen's without restoring the original building.

still, jacobsen's beautiful brickwork with the characteristic hamburg joint as it is known here, a staple of the neoclassical architecture of copenhagen, and his brass windows and lettering have stood the test of time.

more jacobsen.
