"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13
Available to all, Wanted by none.
These things belong to my Father in Law, Dallas Taylor of the 22nd Brigade, 6th marines. He was wounded when his AmTrac was hit during the landing on Guam in the Marianas Islands assaults July 21, 1944.
He still has dreams of that day on the beach. In the middle of the night he screams to his friends, "Look out", Get down"! He thrashes in the sheets. Then the chilling call, he yells "Medic!", "Medic". A friend is dead. Then, for the umpteenth time the Old Marine gets hit by that piece of metal into his guts. It has hit him far more times than the once the government recognizes. It has gored him a thousand times since.
So thank a veteran today, thank them because they took the hit when no one else was available or willing. Thank them because they still stand for something.
