Because they're holding Thermal Detonators!
These fine strapping girls and boys marched in front of me as we lined up to rehearse for our three hours of fame in the 2007 Tournament of Roses Parade. I only had my small camera with me, since my SLR wouldn't even fit in a Biker Scout's huge pockets. I love the shadows as they reflect through this extraordinary lineup.
22+ countries were represented by over 200 marchers, flown in from all over the world by George himself. Evidently our presence in the Rose Parade was a brainchild of his from last January, and they spent a year putting this together. On the 501st's end, this was an amazing event for all of us as we met members from all over the world. I marched beside an Australian, behind an Austrian, in front of an Englishman, and with people from incredible places.
Monday night after the parade, we had our last banquet dinner after five days of training. There were a lot of tears and hugs. What a surreal experience. I miss them all already, and our little sequestered Star Wars world.
