Custom Rivendell Bicycle
4/16/09

Just finished three of four legs of the BC Randonneur's "Eau de hell" week on the pencil (now sort of semi-renamed the shetland pencil for surefooted work on the malahat hiway/pass after midnight...riding between rumblestrips and sandy/gravel mix).

7/08

Completed Cascade 1200 on the Pencil. main issue: intense saddle pain though overall bike fit was good. Experimenting with Selle An-Atomica saddle

1500 miles or so now on the bike. Fit/ride is quite good. Going to a "fit specialist" on Thursday to tweak saddle height and cleat placement . Also--swapping out noodle bars for beloved midge bars.

So far--completed 100k and 200k brevets on this bike. This coming weekend--a 300k followed by a 24 fleche ride next weekend. Big goal--complete my first 1200k, the Cascade 1200, in June. By then, I should have a pretty complete picture of the bike's fit/function/performance. So far, so good.

9/27/07: FRAME ARRIVED AND IS AWAITING FINAL BUILD BY FAVORITE LOCAL SHOP WHICH IS CURRENTLY WORKING THROUGH A BACKLOG OF BACK-TO- SCHOOL BIKE REPAIRS/SALES/ETC. HOPE TO TEST RIDE BIKE ON WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY. WHAT'S ANOTHER WEEK?

9/25/07: FRAME IS FINISHED AND ON ITS WAY.

UPDATED WAIT: 3 YEARS, 3 MONTHS.

FRAME HAS BEEN BUILT BUT AWAITS PAINT.

July 2007. Frame finished! Now off to the painters.

Almost June 2007. Alas, no frame in view.

2/22/07

Just heard from Riv that the frame will be finished by the end of next month--meaning March. Assuming 3 months for paint, I may actually see new bike by June (closing the circle on my three year wait). Stay tuned for more parts and reports.

Ordered in June 2004. Delivery wait: 2 years and five months (and counting...but no hurry since I really like to make various future plans for the bike...). Today, parts box arrived though I fear the frame itself will not be here until November--or December (or March or June). Pix so far of some of the bits which will go on
