Les Tulips de Shangri-La

I wish y’all a fun Valentine Day !

(A short break from the Brazil series for some Lille picz)

This is a part of the ‘Les Tulips de Shangri-La’ sculpture placed on the Esplanade Francois-Mitterrand part of the EuraLille shopping & business centre of Lille (France). Lille was 2004’s cultural capital of Europe. The Tulips are conceived by the Japanese sculptress Yayoi Kusama and is a part of the “The power of flowers” comtemporary art exposition. Lille’s cultural capital organisation states the following about it: “Flowers will always remind us of paradise, where flowers are all that the eye can see. The Flower Power exhibition is spread through multiple venues and ranges from natural flowers to symbolic flowers, from classical arrangements to modern displays that seem to be exploding”.

This big sculpture certainly introduced a bit of fun and colour in the vast and a bit stark EuraLille square. Lovers have discovered its curved composite leafs to snuggle and bask in the sun. The yellow sign high up the building reads ‘hello darling’.
