Brindisi from the air

This dates from June 1941 and was taken, I believe, by a recce flight from Malta where at that time my father was, as he put it 'fully occupied with staying alive'. North is 'up' in this picture.

 

There is something substantial in harbour but the picture is not clear enough to identify it. The airfield top right appears devoid of 'planes.

 

As always there is pleasure to be had by comparing and contrasting with that Prince of Toys Google Earth where one can see the modern port is largely off to the right. Also ( Jan 08) a helicopter carrier is in port though I cannot be certain if it is Italian or American. The airfield is much changed.
