18/10/2012 ~ Dark Side Of The Moon
Smoke photography was another area that I wanted to explore this month. Like water drops I've done it before and really enjoyed it so tonight was the night to try again.
Although there are a couple that are similar to the last time that I did this I tried to mix it up a bit more and this one in particular is my submission to the group because it is vastly different from any other shot that I captured and I love the smooth silky texture of it.
This was primarily lit with an SB-900 camera right with an Interfit softbox attached but with the front diffuser panel removed so it was basically acting like a wide snoot to try and stop light spilling onto the background. The softbox then had a few different colours of modelling balloons stuffed in to try and add some colour interest.
There was also an SB-800 camera left with a green filter attached and a strip of cardboard elastic banded on to mask the background on the other side. BTW - this is my broken flash which today when I switched it on the screen was clear for long enough to let me see that it was already set to remote and I could determine it would trigger on Channel 1 of Group A ;).
