Fire and Light

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, established on August 1, 1916. It encompasses two active volcanoes: Kīlauea, one of the world's most active volcanoes, and Mauna Loa, the world's most massive shield volcano. Kīlauea and its Halemaumau caldera were traditionally considered the sacred home of the volcano goddess Pele, and Hawaiians visited the crater to offer gifts to the goddess. Here you see an active crater in the middle of Halemaumau caldera. The fun part of photographing this crater is that if you don't like the lighting, just wait and it will change.
