Wood, ivory, ebony, faience

Length 38.5 cm (15.2 in); width 26.8 cm (10.6 in)

18th Dynasty; reign of Amenhotep III

Thebes, Valley of the Kings

Tomb of Yuya and Tjuya (KV 46)

CG 51118

Yuya and Tjuya probably received this ornamental chest as a gift from their son-in-law, Amenhotep III, whose name and that of his wife Tiye appear on it.

Perhaps a container for cosmetics or jewelry, the chest contains a repeated text: “all life and prosperity.”
