Loew's Elsmere Theatre, Bronx, NYC

Located at 1924 Crotona Parkway in the West Farms district of Bronx, New York City. The Elsmere Theatre opened in 1914 as a Vaudville theatre with a seating capacity of 1,552. It was designed by the architectural firm Shampan & Shampan. From 1924 it was a full time movie theatre, operated by Loew's and had a Moller 3Manual/15Rank organ installed (to replace an earlier Moller organ). It closed in the early 1950's and was later converted into a church. The facade was modernised, but the church moved out many years ago and the building sits empty and derelict when I photographed here in June 2005. It was demolished in May 2007.
