The first neon sign erected on the Hastings strip in decades, just as the fate of the capitalist pig gracing Save-On Meats down the street is in question. I believe the sign is a replica of one that used to be here.
The Pennsyvania Hotel has been recently restored and is a single-room occupancy building run by the Portland Hotel Society. This is the original Portland Hotel where PHS got its start in housing the "hard to house" in the Downtown Eastside. The building was built in 1908 as the Woods Hotel.
