mt. rainier, five seasons (part two)
I could wax poetic about this place for the length of paragraphs, pages, chapters. It's my place. I hail from a farm in Iowa and didn't see mountains until I was 18... and yet, THIS. This is my place.
As I'm driving, halfway through the park up to Paradise, my heart starts racing in anticipation. Doesn't matter what the season or the weather is. Doesn't matter if it's a day trip or a long weekend stay. My eyes widen, my breaths deepen, my heart opens. I get up at 3:20 am to catch sunrise at Sunrise. I stay up for sunset. I live off peanut butter sandwiches and trail mix so that I can spend the entire day on the trail.
I hope you all have those places. The ones that make you brim full of wonder and gratefulness.
(Oh, and, FIVE seasons... because one of these is clearly winter dumped on top of autumn... wintumn? Auter? Heh.)
