Longmire SAR Cabin Dedication
On Saturday, August 10th at 11:00 am there was a dedication event in Longmire of cabin L-123. This structure, originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, was intended to be park housing. After many decades of deterioration, the unit was uninhabitable. Mount Rainier partnered with Washington's National Park Fund (WNPF) to compete for funding from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express to gut and restore the cabin for use as housing for volunteer Search and Rescue teams. The fundraising drive was a success, with WNPF even stepping in to provide additional funds needed to complete the work and furnish it! As a result, this significant historic structure was lovingly restored by our own employees and is now ready for occupancy!
